Working from Home
A built in wardrobe was converted with a boxed in door frame and floating shelves for Alice, the Burmese to curl up on. The data centre is bolted to the wall,
A fascinating glimpse into the new way of working, this jewell box of a home office was the highlight of a whole house decoration project that involved painting, carpets and window furnishings.
Created from one of the bedrooms, the office for two can accommodate video conferencing (with a gorgeous backdrop!), printing and physical storage as well as computer work.
And in a perfect work/life balance, Alice, the Burmese cat is here, padding sliently through the space, her elegant form and curious nature a lovely distraction.
Extra data and power points have been fitted and plastic chair mats are done away with by including a custom cut out mat in the same new carpet installed by Carpet Court. Outside the window can be glimpsed another place for work - the sunny enclosed courtyard.
Shiplap wall treatment in Dulux Bengal Blue, desk and floating shelves in Polytech Soft Walnut
Perfect lighting for video conferencing is provided by the choice of a light filtering or block blind, mounted into the cavity for a slimline fit.
The desks’ laminated legs are carefully placed to allow for free movement around the return and to minimise the presence of the furniture in the room. Floating shelves have a small lip at the ends as a precaution.
Two desks with returns and a data storage alcove were dovetailed in with room for walkways, door swings and chairs to swivel.
Small rooms require detailed planning to work well. The workstations were dovetailed in to allow for walkthroughs and chairs to swivel.
Hand knotted jute rug from Armadillo, black steel and glass coffee table from LM Home, Roman Blind by Innaloo Curtains and Blinds
The whole house had been painted Dulux Lexicon and the same silvery jacquard was used as a roman blind in the living room and lined curtains in the bedroom.
I just love the name of the colour of the hand knotted rug in the living room - aubergine - a gorgeous muted purple. Here a glass topped table with black steel frame provides a focal point while allowing the space to flow.
With side tables for lap tops and a modular sofa, the living room is a great spot for co-working during the day and games night when the computers are turned off. And here’s Alice, surveying the scene. I’m sure she approves!
