Family and Friends

Built as an outdoor loungeroom for entertaining and relaxing, this stunning Alfresco addition by Bellagio Homes could have been purpose built for 2020’s stay at homers. With a pitched roof extending from the house clad in shiplap and an open fireplace from Subiaco Restoration nearly 1 metre wide, the space is uplifting and cosy all at once. Best of all, the extensive glazing means the atmosphere continues inside the interior of the home.

Spaces like this don’t come without extensive planning, for the backyard originally contained a pool surrounded by a sea of glaring paving. The fibreglass pool was able to be resold and many cubic metres of fill installed and compacted to prepare for the concrete slab extension.

Because the space was meant for relaxing, surfaces are tiled for ease of maintenance. The beautiful Stellar range from Myaree Ceramics was used and nothing is easier than a quick sweep and hose down following a fireside gathering.

Adding lighting to the Alfresco was an inspired decision, extending the home at night and creating a totally different atmosphere to daytime.

The ceiling’s shiplap cladding and exposed beams are beautifully highlighted with adjustable spotlights from HLS Design Lighting, fitted with a dimmer switch for late night lounging.

Minimal white pillar lights, also by HSL designs, wash the walls, textured with a graffiato finish and tinted Dulux quarter strength Narrow Neck.

But with flickering flames to mesmerise and calm or energise and inspire, the wood fueled fire is the most beautiful light of all.
