We're In :)

2020 has been a difficult year for everyone but also a new beginning for us…..

Our oversized kitchen island serves as a room divider and gathering point

Applying for finance, finetuning the design and stretching the budget, we have worked towards our new home for several years. Then to save rent, we camped upstairs while our new open plan extension and alfresco was built.

When we finally moved in, we thought - really, was this for us? The delight in living in such a spacious, workable environment has not dimmed over the months. All the hard work and thought put in has paid off and there’s really nothing we would change!

Having the lounge in the middle of the extension meant a smooth flow to the outdoor alresco

With our home so nearly ready, it was hard to move out while the entire bottom storey timber floor was sanded and sealed. However the flow of satin smooth Tasmanian Oak through the whole house has united the old and new, adding to the spacious feel. Our friends cannot tell where the old ends and new begins. And it’s barefoot luxury.

The laundry opening off the kitchen meant it could also be designed as a scullery

When we chose Bellagio Constructions, using Australian made and stocked products was not top of our minds. However we were very glad for this when importing crisis hit with the pandemic. Although building slowed, our construction was never held up by fixtures and materials not being available. My most exciting day was when all the new appliances were installed. I have never had so many new and shiny presents.

The high apex roof lets light flood into inside and allows the backyard to seem larger

As we all know, our homes became a haven during the quarantines imposed by the virus. With socialising and sporting options closed and teenagers sent home from school it seemed our new spaces were built for staying at home!. The outdoor lounge with open fireplace and oversized kitchen island proved gathering points while spacious volumes meant we never felt hemmed in.

Always, curtains. They soften and soothe in a contemporary space busy with people.

Although the build progressed like clockwork, when furnishing the extension I have experienced long delays so I have chosen to just release some snapshot photos for now. As each space is properly furnished I will be featuring it on my Projects page. So be sure to check back often - I hope to inspire and encourage others to pursue their own projects in their homes.
